How To Repair That Annoying Leaky Kitchen Faucet Aerator
There are a few and far things in home improvement that are more annoying and frustrating than a leaky kitchen faucet. Whether it’s the subtle noise a water drop makes when hitting the basin that irritates you or just the sheer fact that your faucet is not performing to its potential, repairing a leaky faucet is relatively simple and certainly a do-it-yourself type of project. All of your kitchen stresses and peeves can be eliminated by merely changing your faucet’s O-ring. A leaky kitchen faucet should not be neglected and should be taken care of immediately because believe it or not, those little droplets dripping into you sink when your faucet is off is going to cost you a hefty amount of money on your next water bill as well as wearing away your faucet assembly. Take action the moment you hear one drop because resolving this problem is inexpensive and quick, and will save you from future pricey repair troubles as well as a headache.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Using pliers, remove the aerator located at the tip of the faucet. The aerator will most likely look like a plastic or metal mesh-screened plug that you can remove by twisting it counterclockwise.
- Next, remove the O-ring. The O-ring is a rubber ring that will be located on the spout side of the aerator and can easily be pried out with a flathead screwdriver.
- To clean the aerator, use a toothbrush dipped in white vinegar to brush away all the debris or simply allow the aerator to soak in a bowl of white vinegar for about 10-15 minutes. The white vinegar will loosen and soften all the mineral deposits for easy removal.
- Visit your nearest home improvement store and purchase a new O-ring of the same size. To install your new O-ring, simply place it into the aerator and press the aerator back into place.
- Twist faucet spout back on by turning the aerator clockwise using pliers that have their jaw taped with masking tape to compete the repair.
