Aeration is a vital concern for creating a healthy, thriving lawn. If grass roots are not aerated, particularly in areas with heavy traffic, or those that do not drain water well, they can grow together in knots and snarls, rather than reaching deep into the earth. This deprives roots of contact with the soil, reducing their uptake of vital nutrients and water. Lawn aeration is designed to stop this. There are several choices to make in this area, though.
You will have two options when you choose to aerate your lawn: spike aerators and plug aerators. Plug aerators actually remove chunks of your turf, while spike aerators make neat holes in the ground, without removing any soil. You will find that spike aerators offer excellent performance, particularly in smaller areas – if you have a very large yard, a plug aerator might be a better decision, simply to save on effort and time. However, if you simply need a way to maintain and green up smaller sections, spike aerator shoes or even push-aerators with spikes can help you ensure that your grass receives all the vitamins, nutrients, air and water that it needs to thrive and grow.
